Autumn with kids in Berlin: activities & outing ideas for families

Collecting colourful leaves, flying kites, carving pumpkins or discovering a museum together on a rainy day: autumn with kids in Berlin offers plenty of opportunities for small and big family adventures.

2. Discovering autumn colours at Britzer Garten

Britzer Garten is especially beautiful in autumn.

Alongside footpaths, lakes and play landscapes, you can catch the big dahlia show there in September. There are also seasonal events for families.

On 20 September 2026, for example, the pumpkin and apple festival takes place. The programme includes pumpkin carving, experiments, crafts, face painting, a pumpkin obstacle course, a straw playground, theatre and music.

3. Going on an autumn treasure hunt

Sometimes you don't need a specific destination at all for an exciting family activity.

Head to a park or the woods and give the children a little mission:

4. Carving pumpkins

Hardly anything says October quite like pumpkins.

You can visit a pumpkin farm, or simply pick one up at the market and get creative at home.

It doesn't always have to be the classic Halloween face.

How about:

Don't make it a classic walk – make it a little adventure.

Old railway tracks, nature, art and unusual paths make the Südgelände a rather different kind of walk.

Especially in autumn, the vegetation gives the place a special atmosphere.

With children, you can go exploring and look for remnants of the old railway installations, animals, plants and artworks.

The Berlin autumn half-term 2026 runs from 19 to 31 October.

In 2026, Halloween falls on Saturday, 31 October – perfect for a family outing.

One highlight already announced is:

Planned activities include face painting, a Halloween disco, a lantern parade, fairy tales, walkabout performers, a fire show and further hands-on activities.

With small children, you often don't need a big autumn programme at all.
